Middlesbrough Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • The three boxes on the homepage (Children, Parents and Professionals) are missing discernible text. This may make it difficult for some users to understand the purpose of these elements. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role, value).

The required text will be added to these elements by end of November 2025.

  • On some pages the heading sizes don’t increase by one, this means it may be difficult for some users to navigate those pages. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (headings and labels).

All heading sizes will be checked and changed as needed by the end of November 2025.

  • When at the top of the website, when clicking the cookie settings element this loads underneath the menu. This can make it difficult to use and understand that element. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (reflow).

The cookie selection element will be readded so it does not hide behind the menu by end of November 2025.
